Is there an on-board editor, something similar to CEditor, for PToolbox?

There is app called Cconverter which can translate CEditor databases into PToolbox source code.

Much better though is an app called RsrcEdit (search for it on PalmGear) which allows you to design resource forms on your PDA. Resource forms are nice because they load lightning fast, they support scrollbars, and allow for GSI objects in pre-OS3.5 systems.

RsrcEdit will also allow to create alert, menu, bitmap, and string resources.

That's the one created for use with OnBoardC. I think Quartus bought it to complement their Forth product. The only thing I don't like about it is it's hefty size.

Does Pocket Toolbox also support native graphics made with RsrcEdit? As I understand it, you can make app icons with it. The graphics editor in the version I've used is primitive, but servicable.

Hey,

I would like to know how to use rsrcedit with Ptoolbox lib...

Cheers

I use RsrcEdit a bit, I don't mind the size as I have 8mb to fill and I'm sure most other people have at least 8mb too.

From what I've tried RsrcEdit only seems to handle black and white bitmaps, but this may be because I don't have a colour device. Just do menu > new > bitmap and fill out the form to create a new bmp.

I think if the PTB bmp ID is 1000 or over it looks for a resource with that ID. I use artBMP for fiddling with resource bitmaps anyway.

You can make color and grayscale bitmaps with RsrcEdit, as well as bitmap families (a bitmap which has B&W, grayscale, and color images, all with the same ID number).

I would suggest reading the RsrcEdit manual and the Forms section of the PToolbox documentation... and then doing some experiments.

I haven't found an answer to this question in the docs (but may have not looked enough ;-) ).

Is it possible to overlay dynamic elements on a static form? The app I'm working on has a set number of buttons and I was wondering if I could create a static form with buttons that have borders only (maybe put spaces in for names). Then my app would overlay the appropriate graphic element on each button as required.

That way, I'd only have to create one or two forms which I could use interchangeably.

Is this possible?

Thanks.

Joe.

Yes. Any dynamic object can be installed in a resource form after it is loaded. There is a very short blurb about this in the "tips" sub-section in the "Resource Forms & Objects" area of the PToolbox docs.

This technique generally works well for monochrome devices, but as soon as color and grayscale enter the picture problems creep in with managing the background of the buttons. Use GButtons() instead for these cases.

Another approach is to put all your buttons, form bitmaps, and graphic buttons in a single resource form and just SHOW/HIDE the objects as neccessary.
