Joe,

using v7.5.2.

The resource menu works fine by trapping menu events in the main event handler.

Is there a way to bring up a resource menu by an event other than titlebar tap or silk key? Fctl(POPMENU,1) called in the event handler doesn't seem to pop up the menu on the next pass through the event loop. Even tried Fevent(1) immediately after POPMENU. Didn't work.

Also, how can one use a separate event handler for menu events?

The goal is to use a hardkey to pop the menu, and select the menu item with up/down hardkeys. Application is designed to not require the use of the stylus. Also, the main event handler needs to be disabled while the menu is up, as the hardkeys are used differently when the menu is not active.

POPMENU should just work. If it doesn't something is busted. It will generally take a number of loops through Fevent() to actually pop.

You can't, the PalmOS doesn't give us access to that. The only way around it to craft one's own menu drawing & handling code from scratch.

You can use the NoKeyEvents() to disable/enable the hard key events altogether.

Hmm...
I got POPMENU to work finally.

Is there a way to detect if the menu is popped?

I tried using Fctl(EHAND,menuhandler)

menuhandler(int ID, int type){
if(type == 5) alert("Menu open detected by type");
if(ID == MnuMainMenu) alert("Menu open detected by ID");
}

but menuhandler() did not detect type 5 events (command bar open event).

EHAND functions can't trap menu pop-ups.

Not currently.

The command bar and the menu bar are two different (though related) things.

So you're using an OS3.5+ device and the forward grafitti slash is not triggering a "command bar open" event?
