I'm interested in using the icons from the excellent free Icon Manager from Christopher Antos. However I'm not sure how to get and use the icons dynamically at run time from my Designer app.

Is this possible?

Yes, those iconsets can be used with orbforms - with the exception that the runtime seems unwilling to load/display the icon with the ID 0.

How would I load the bitmap from the IM prc file?

Since it seems that bitmaps can only be used it they are defined in the compiler first, how would I do it at runtime?

What I'd like to do is have my program load the icon prc, choose several to use, and draw them onto my form.

Using the icons in forms with dummy-bitmap-objects goes like this:
Code: Select all
   if (DB.open(<IM res-file>, true)) {
      (find the desired icon, res-id goes to 'id' *)
      myImg.bmpid = id;
      myImg.sbmpid = id;
      myImg.visible = true;
   }

* Check for icons with code like this:
Code: Select all
   int i, n = DB.nrecs;
   for (i=0; i<n; i++) {
      DB.getresinfo(i, &type, &id);
      if (type == "Tbmp") return id;
   }

For implementing a selector, you could put several dummy-bitmaps in your form, or you could create a gadget, drawing the bitmaps in a grid.
Read the docs coming with IconManager for design-advice.

Thanks nmc. I'll study your code and see if I can make sense of the txt file that comes with IM (I tried but it didn't make much sense at first glance).

I downloaded the version from your link, it comes with 2 .htm files, so maybe you use an older version?
The docs only mention some hints about how many columns a selector should have, the rest is not very interesting for you.

I'm able to open the icon database and getresinfo for each record, but the following doesn't work (compile error: not part of structure):

myImg.bmpid = id;
myImg.sbmpid = id;
myImg.visible = true;

So I assume the first was suppose to be:
myImg.id = RecID; // I changed the id var to RecID

but what are the others supposed to do?

Edit: Wait...I see that your referring to bmp on a UIButton. Let me check out some more.

I thought you would like something you can select, since you wanted to create a selector ;-)
