Question on data type...

I create a data base consisting of 10 2-byte fields (using dbwritex... with i2).
If I write into the first field an integer 0, how do I know that the first field has
a) integer 0 in it, or
b)it has had nothing put into it (i.e., still in it's virgin form from when first initialized), or
c) that has been cleared via a dberase()?

Perhaps, if your design permits, you could add another field (char for preference) and whenever you put data into that record, set that new "flag" to 'Y' or something.

Char is the smallest datatype, so it shouldnt inflate your DB size too much.

Ahhh, even better, I could make that character field store the position of the next available field within the record...

Thanks...
