Database documentation

Discuss PocketC for CE (including Desktop Edition)

Postby dennislovelady on Wed Jul 24, 2002 3:03 pm

I know that a long long time ago in a galaxy not too far away, I was able to read the Database documentation. I can no longer find it on the OrbWorks site. So I traversed through this forum, stopping with the November, 2001 entries, looking for references to where that might be found. I was unable to locate same. Any hints on that?

Also, in my travels, I found reference to Guy's APIs (which I'm downloading now), and Guy's comments that documentation might be found on MS site. Quoteing now, I found the following:

(from BLHORN) 04/15/2002 : 06:17:41)

OK, I think I might be able to do that... *IF* I knew the function names in question. Can you tell where those might be found?

Thanks muchly!

The PocketC database documentation describes the PocketC wrapper functions around the real CE database functions. The PocketC functions are simpler but less powerful.

On my HPCPro, the PocketC V3 compiler documentation includes the PocketC database documentation.

The new OrbWorks site layout omits much of the useful CE documentation from the old site layout. Fortunately the old stuff is still there at:

http://www.orbworks.com/wince/doc/index.html

On that page you'll find all of the old documentation, including the database stuff.

You can find the documentation on all of the Windows CE API functions by following today's choice of menus on the Microsoft Online Library site:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp

Mobile and embedded development
- Embedded operating system development
-- Windows CE
--- Windows CE 3.0
---- Product documentation
----- Windows CE API reference
------ Section of your choice (like database)
------- Functions
------- Macros

I don't know how long the menus will stay the same. I'll go and change the CEAPI readme to include the layout above.

Look at the database examples installed into My Documents by the CEAPI kit.

If you want to check the names of the functions so that you can enter then in the Microsoft Online Library search box, then browse through the header files installed into the \PocketC folder by the CEAPI installation. Each function is declared in a #export line at the bottom of the header file:

<pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>
commctrl.h ...Common controls
commdlg.h ....Common dialogue boxes (file open and save, print, colour)
gx.h .........Game API functions
mmsystem.h ...Sound output
winbase.h ....Operating system and memory access functions
windbase.h ...Database functions
wingdi.h .....Drawing and graphics functions
winreg.h .....Registry functions
winuser.h ....All of the controls stuff except common controls
</font id=code></pre id=code>

I just checked through the PocketC database documentation and I noticed that it refers to the GetLastError() function.

This function doesn't appear in the PocketC library. You can get it from the CEAPI library.
