Macros (e.g. __DATE__) doesnt compile with PktC DE

Discuss PocketC for CE (including Desktop Edition)

Postby Thorsten Godau on Tue Sep 03, 2002 4:29 am

Hi all,

i tried to use two of the macros described
in the PocketC knowledge base:

string DateTime;

DateTime = "Built: " + __DATE__ + " " + __TIME__;

On my Win98-system this will produce an error
"confused in expression".
If i use DateTime = __DATE__; it will compile but the
software crashes on PPC with a access violation.

On my WinNT-system the line
DateTime = "Built: " + __DATE__ + " " + __TIME__;
will compile with success (i didnt try to download
this produced app to the ppc).

Is this a bug in the desktop edition?

I also came across this recently (using __LINE__). But it still works with the previous version of the compiler.

I posted something about this in the suggestions/bug part of the forum. I don't think Kevin looks at anything posted anywhere on this board any more.

Hi Guy,

i hope you have had nice holidays.

It sounds very frustrating.
If PocketC and PCForm wasn?Ǭ¥t as easy and
powerful, i would use maybe MPS/MPL.
I hope, Kevin will force PocketC development...

Four days in Disneyland Paris. Lots of rollercoaster
rides, acceleration, loops, corkscrews, thrown around
all over the place with no problem, then did my back in
carrying the luggage from the train to my car. Spent
Friday lying on my back on the floor unable to move.
Life's like that...

The real problem is that I lose momentum on updates. I
start doing a piece of code then I'm held up for months
and by the time something gets resolved I've got
myself involved in something else.

If he only did a few minor things then it would help me
tremendously. The problem is that he does these complete
rewrites that take forever. There were significant things
that needed to be done from V2 to V3 (increase size
available for generated code), but he managed to slow
everything down by objectising everything. It looks like
V4 is another re-port from the Palm version, so the speed
will increase to normal, but I'm worried about losing
the code size, structs, the external library interface.
I'm also concerned that he's writing a new event model. I
understand that some people take a while to get to grips
with the old one, but changing the mechanism means that he'll
have to have a compatibility mode so that he doesn't break
old programs. The new one simply presents events the way
that PCForm does (define an event function for an event
on a control). All good stuff. Has anyone actually asked
for this though? I'll have to build support for two different
ways to process events in PCForm.
