My #@%!@#$ iPAQ locked up solid today. I have no idea why. But repeated soft resets would do nothing except leave me with a blank grey screen. Any whoo I powered it down and brought it back up. Man look at all the free memory now!! Anyway after reinstalling a ton of software everything works except PCForm. It fires up and I get the grid and can put controls on it but there is no menubar on the bottom of the screen!! So I can't access any of the functions obviously.

It was working perfectly just before the crash. In fact I was reading the Visual App Builder help file from inside the program when it went blooey.

Is this something simple? I hope. I removed everything and reinstalled it from the file I received by email the other day (v1.25) But the same thing happens.

It may be an iPAQ thing and not the software. I just don't know.

Any help is much appreciated,

I can think of two things that may cause the problem.

1. The version of the PocketC runtime.

2. The menu bar is turned off somehow. Maybe the registry is confused.

You can try to see whether it is option 2 by calling up the keyboard and entering CTRL+space (control button and space button together). This toggles the menu bar on and off in PCForm.

If you have a registry editor you could have a look at the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Network Dynamics\PCForm\Options\Options and set it's value to something safe, like 1.

CTRL+Space doesn't work on my Palm-size PC with PCform 1.25.
I also noticed that the TRANSPARENT style isn't set for the bkmode. When i create a drawed srting, and i set it to TRANSPARENT, the code is created with OPAQUE in it.
If i turn the menuBar off and i quit PCform, it's reset to on.

First bug in V1.25 then.

I'll have a look at the code for bkmode.

No other ideas at the moment about the menu bar. Maybe it's a version problem with the runtime. If deviceplatform() isn't working properly then the menu bar would go to the top of the screen. But then that should be below the start bar, not covered by it.

Does the standard PocketC menu disappear?

Ahhh that did it Guy. Needed the v3 runtime.

I was so flustered that I never checked.

Thanks to all who responded. The more I work with Pocket C and associated applications the more impressed I am with the community that surrounds it.

Thanks again,

I've fixed the background mode bug.

I'll wait for a few days to see whether anything else crawls out of the woodwork before reissuing the kit.
