Is there any way to switch off the File menu in a programme, and then switch it back on again later?

menu_on() and menu_off() is that what you are needing?

Menu_off() does not seem to work with the standard File menu?

Check that you have an up-to-date version of the runtime.

On what hardware are you running PocketC?

There were some weirdnesses to do with the runtime and PocketPC devices.

I thought that I had the latest version of runtime. I am running it on a Casio, Cassiopeia E115, and using menu_off() does not seem to switch off the File menu.

menu_off() hides the menu bar. But manytimes, it dosen't redraw the screen. So, if the menu is displayed but doesen't work, try to call clearg(); just after menu_off(); it works on the ipaq and the E-105 (the machines i have to test with), and with the V2 device compiler.

Yes you were right. clearg() is needed to clear the screen after a call to menu_off() on my E115. Thanks

Unfortunately, it seems that, although menu_off() and clearg() do hide the menu it does unfortunately still flash up at the begining of the programme before disappearing. It almost looks as if there is something wrong.

It seems that in applications that do not want it there the default of on is bad news. Much better if the default was off so that people could call it up only if needed. Then it would be expected to appear. Seems a little stupid to appear momentarilly if you don't want it there!

Is there another way, or is there a way of altering the default to off so that it doesn't flash up at the begining?

You cannot set it off by default. But if you call delgui(1); as the first function of the main(), it will not stay long enough to be used. But i don't know if you can reset it on later. delgui(1) should delete the main window. But it's not allowed. So only the menu is deleted. BUT IT'S NOT A CLEAN WAY TO DO THIS

I put clearg into menu_off call in v3. So people won't have this confusion.
To have a better menu, I suggest go with Guy's Menubar, and turn off the default menu bar.
However, about the flash at the begining, if this is a critical problem, we can come up some hack to disable it.

Let me know.

added a #pragma R3MENUOFF to disable the default menu completely. It would not even be created during the startup. Read the knowledge base artile on this subject.
