user name question

Discuss PocketC for Palm OS (including Desktop Edition)

I've written some code for my app which generates an unlock code based on the user's 'user name'. However, I've just been wondering.
Do all user names consist of just two words separated by a space, say:

John Smith

or do they sometimes consist of just a single name, two names joined together, more than two names, or names which contain initials?

Jiang Zi Ming
Booker T. Washington

Thanks in advance.

Based on my experience, a user name (HotSync ID) may be multiple words. I don't know if there's a limit to the number of characters (but I suspect there is).

Some other things to consider:

Some people have hyphenated last names (e.g., Webley-Vickers), so include a hyphen.

Some people use their email addresses, so include the @ symbol.

Some folks use possessives (e.g., John's T3), so include an apostrophe.

Some people use numbers & other characters in their usernames, so include those, too. I've encountered underscores, slashes & backslashes as well.
