Discuss PocketC for Palm OS (including Desktop Edition)

Postby Power on Tue Feb 06, 2001 3:08 am

Hi everybody... it's me again.... i have good news... got an email from Mario Schlesinger (author of CControls & CEditor <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>) and ask about giving the code of CEditor for other interested developers... and he said it's ok...

any volunteers ? ... just directly email me, will send you the original CEditor codes (it's about 8-10 memopad long) will come up with a documentaion in a week or two... started on the CControls first, unless anybody out there have done this already like on the Cbutton 0=control type, 1,2,3,4=size ad location of button, 5=string display... etc.

Yesterday my computer just got busted, my hard drive is not in good condition, will buy a had drive today so most probably will email the codes to any interest deveoper with a delay period of 2-4 days.

Let's make CEditor better... <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi there, Nelson.

I've got a lot of the Ccontrols files documented, because of the work I've been doing adding new control objects to the framework. Let me know when your PC is back up, and I can email you what I've got. I've fixed a few bugs in the Ccontrols itself, as well as added some references to the new controls I've created.

Thanks to some inspiration from Vilmos' code, I finally got the highlighting working with my field editing control, and the category control looks like it's finished. I'll be finishing up some documentation within the next week or so, and can then make my updated Ccontrols files available for "beta testing".

Nelson, please email me the source code for Ceditor. Even though I don't actually use Ceditor, I definitely can give a hand on the documentation of the source and could possibly fix a few bugs, depending on how evident they are <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Cheers,

Hello,

I don't know if I am the first one to find the following bug, but as now some people are working on improving CControls I thought this would be a good time to fix it as well. Here's what's happening:

To select a control in CControls (to edit it), you have to click on it. Now I did not like that some labels got inverted when I clicked on them (they are really just labels and should not do anything when touched). So I had the bright (I thought) idea to set their size to zero. Result: Now it is impossible to do anything with them, I can't remove/resize/edit/... them anymore because I can't select them anymore. This is very annoying. If it happens after you created a lot of controls you are just stuck with them... unless you want to recreate everything again from scratch.

I think the best solution would be a menubar entry "Controls" which would pop up a list of all controls in the current project, so you have a second way of selecting them for editing or deleting.

Hi wolfgang..

yes i notice that with the label... i'm not sure about it's intention if it's suppose to be a selectable label or not... but a static text label will be made to replace that. ok

it's gonna take some time since the codes are really dizzy, variables that only have 2 characters. Wow that's tough because you have to make sure it's unique between the 8 -10 memopad codes of CEditor if not there will be some conflicts.

If you don't want the labels to be inverted, simply do not include - if (Cevent(label,e)) - in the messageloop. That makes a label static.

I'd like a copy of the source to see what I can do.

Please email it to crflynn@bellatlantic.net
Thanks

Hello,

thanks for the tip regarding static labels.
But actually my main point was that whenever you enter 0 for the size of a control (CEditor lets you do that!), you can no longer access it at all - not delete, not edit, nothing. That's a serious problem I think.

Ccontrols with Pocket Toolbox color support !
This is very exciting news about you guys improving on Ccontrols. I too have tried to improve Ccontrols, by adding color to each control. I did not get very far, but just played around with it a bit. Like lists with foreground and background colors. Different color text, or even boxes with color outlines, and for pop-up lists. I would like to see Ccontrols with Pocket Toolbox color support added. Ah, two of the best add on programs for pocketC. I think someone should be in charge of gathering everyone?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s changes to Ccontrols. And then periodically coming out with updates for everyone to use. As long as the author says it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s ok. This could really help a lot of people in making better and brighter programs for pocketC. The interest seems to be there. Lets move Ccontrols further on.

I'd definitely love to see an update of the CControls source. I use it almost exclusively for my UI work in my apps.

If I might be so bold as to suggest it, it might be a good idea to host the CControls and Editor code somewhere so we can all get at it more easily than you having to mail it out to all those of us who are interested.

Just a thought.

- Theo

Oh, I'd like a copy of the code too. I won't object to a commented version, but since I do all of my PocketC development right on my Visor, I also won't object to an uncommented version.

Always remember. The person who has to fix your code may know where you live!

I would LOVE a TCP/IP library and a real text edit field..... I want to make an HTML editor for the Palm but can't with the current controls :( why is it so hard? why don't you just add it to PocketC (not an add-on library) because that's programmed in C and is easier to make?

Hi all.

First off, a TCP/IP lib has nothing to do with Ccontrols, but thanks for asking. Please refer to your original thread for that one. <img src=icon_smile_8ball.gif border=0 align=middle>

As for the text edit field, well, I managed to make one with PocketC code, so it's not the best, and a bit slow in spots. Also, it's only a single line.. Although I haven't seen it yet, it seems that Joe S. has made a good tool with the note() function in the latest version of his Pocket Toolbox. But, personally, I'm still looking for a real single and multi line text edit field, the note() is still something that shows up in a dialog box. And unfortunately, I don't have the skills or resources to code a native lib. Any volunteers? <img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>

I'd like to make a clarification to avoid any more confusion: "Ccontrols" refers to the actual PocketC code (a library) that creates and handles the GUI objects themselves. "CEditor" is an application, developed using the Ccontrols library, and is used to design a GUI and generate PocketC code that interacts with the library.
(Ugh. Did I lose anyone in that last sentence?) <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
The reason I'm stating this is that I've been reading some past posts where people refer to Ccontrols and actually mean the CEditor.

Now, on to the good stuff..
I've rebuilt my server box, and will create a web page and ftp directory to host the Ccontrols and Ceditor source. What I'm thinking of is an "opensource" type project, where you can take the source and do what you want with it, but the "official" version will always be from the site. Anyone is welcome to contribute new code and bug fixes to be incorporated into future releases, make suggestions for improvements/additions, etc. For now, I'll maintain the site, and be "caretaker" of the source, but if anyone feels I'm being presumptuous, or wants to take care of this themselves, be my guest.. I'll still give you the server space <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Please don't "flood the gates" of my server just yet, nothing's up there but a 9 month old web site... I'll post here when things are ready, probably not more than a few days, but don't hold me to that! At that time, it will also probably be a good idea to move any Ccontrols discussion to the Ccontrols board, I'll ask the powers that be about who'll be moderating that beast.

I hate writing long-winded posts even more than reading them, so I'll stop now.<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>

Cheers,

Uh oh... are the principals of a messageboard so hard to understand? Please stop whining, stop posting the same message again and again, and PLEASE stick with the original contents of the threads. Thank you! :-/

The fact that no member of this forum has so far developed a TCP/IP library, should be clear now. So either you do it yourself or you wait until a good soul releases such a library. On the other hand, this is a PocketC forum. We have the extraordinary luck that Joseph H. Stadolnik III has build the PToolboxLib, which gives more flexibility to all PocketC developers. But that does not mean that everyone is capable of writing native libraries.

To Stephane:

I'd like to take part in the further development of CControls. I'm looking forward to your next posting. Keep on the good work. :)

Sorry. I was asking if anyone would take the time to write one.
If no one can here, where do you think I could ask at? Is there any good place to ask for someone to program a library for PocketC? What if I said I would pay someone to write this library?
