Selling software via PalmGear

Discuss topics that apply across the products, such as the PocketC language, or development in general

Hi.
Has anyone had any experience doing this?

I finally finished my program last night and added it to PalmGear using their ADD NEW SOFTWARE link under my login. I selected COMMERCIAL software and put a price on it and submitted it. Next thing I know, it is on the front page as a freeware download and 20 people have a free copy of my commercial software instead of paying $15 for it.
As you can imagine, I'm not too happy about this. I quickly removed it from my download link and from their database.
I don't know why they would have selections under ADD NEW SOFTWARE that says "This is COMMERCIAL software", a price, "Sell through palmgear" if it just adds it to the front page with a ZIP download instead of a BUY button.
I have sent them an email complaining about this.

I use ShareIt! Handango and PocketGear to sell my PocketC game. I use a registration code method in the game and it's possible to automate this on Handango and ShareIt!
Some people ( incl. Wolfgang aka Bigfoot ) uses a demo for download & sends out the full version on purchase.

I don't know what went wrong with your setup but it sounds like you made a full version available for download or they mis-understood. If you are certain that PalmGear made a mistake then you should claim from them or try for a free advert.

IF only 20 people donwloaded then there's no real damage done. Some may even be honest & contact you.

I have used PocketGear to purchase & what they do is take you to a download page after you pay.

Thanks ian!

I suppose it's probably good to have 20 copies out there getting tested on various Palm devices anyway hehe.

At least people will be able to see what kind of programmer I am and therefore will know whether or not I produce quality software. Then, in the future they will be checking out my newer software :)

Iron Filings v2.0 has finally been released on PalmGear.com :)

You might want to consider a demo. $14 is a lot of money for a program you don't get to test drive. So far Palmgear only has a buy link.

Of course this might be more fun problems from Palmgear. :)

In one way I'm lucky, I just have one program there as freeware. Of course no one ends up paying me...sigh

I agree, I doubt you'll get even a single download unless you have a trial demo.

132 downloads of the trial demo since I uploaded it at 11pm last night ;)
It's 2:20pm here now.

I just hadn't gotten around to creating a demo version yet.

GO GET IT and let me know what you think!! :)))
