How do I find out the note resolution to ticks?

I know that 60000/tempo gives you the correct delay time,
in milliseconds.

Why doesn't ticks work in milliseconds?

I could probably work out the crotchets and quavers,
it's the triplets which are the problem.

Thanks in advance

Tempo is beats per minute.
Per definition one beat is a quarter note.
The time is 60sec/duration measured in 1/4 notes, or
60000msec/duration.

E.g. tempo 120BPM ==> 1/4 note is 0.5sec, 1/8 note is 0.25sec, and so on.

Three triplet notes are just as long as two "normal" notes of same denominations. Thus a triplet duration is 2/3 of the "straight" duration.

E.g. when 1/4 note lasts for 1000msec, a triplet quarter note lasts for 666.66msec.
